Bio

Marty was born in the city of Chicago and then raised in the northern suburbs. He began playing drums in 7th grade on a challenge from a friend and never looked back!

His first initial drumming influence was John Bonham, and then Mike Portnoy.  Upon joining a blues band with his friends, Chris Layton, the drummer for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, as well as Mitch Mitchell and Carlton Barrett began to influence his playing as well.  Once in college, these influences expanded to jazz greats like Elvin Jones and Art Blakey.  Then most recently, Jonathan Womble, Benny Greb, and Simon Kobler have influenced Marty the most. Take all of these drummers, (John Bonham, Mike Portnoy, Chris Layton, Carlton Barrett, Mitch Mitchell, Elvin Jones, and Art Blakey, Jonathan Womble, Benny Greb, Josh Vargas, and Simon Kobler) mix them together, and you get quite the in your face drumming experience from Marty.

Lately, Marty’s biggest influence is Simon Kobler from Hillsong United, which is what influenced him to join the Heartbeat Family.
