Bio
Jonathan Ortiz is Heartbeat Percussion’s first endorsee from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Growing up in the church and Puerto Rican culture, Jonathan was heavily influenced by an eclectic mix of musical styles ranging from Southern Hymns and Classical Music, to Reggae, Ska, Punk Rock, Grunge, and Latin. In 2001 Jonathan, bought his first drum set and formed his first band. Over the course of the next ten years, Jonathan kept busy and moved around becoming a veteran of the Puerto Rico and Connecticut music scenes. He performed with artists such as After Omega, Errant Society, The Shape, Parallel Dimension, Carina Alfie (Steve Vai), and Destruction.
In 2012, Jonathan took a hiatus from music and began serving at Calvary Chapel of Puerto Rico eventually joining their Worship and Teaching/Youth ministries. Shortly after, in 2013, Jonathan also took on the role of touring and recording drummer for Latin-Metal pioneer Ramon Ortiz (Puya/Ankla/Ortiz). He is featured on the album “Portal” along with percussion giants Paoli Mejias (Marc Anthony/Santana/Eddie Palmieri) and Oscar Santiago (Puya/Ankla/Ill Niño), and appears in the music video for the album’s second single, “Selvática”. His work with Ortiz can be heard on Pandora, Apple Music, Sirius XM Radio and Spotify.
At the start of 2017, Jonathan along with his wife and two lovely children, were called up to Rochester, NY. He currently serves in the Worship and Sound Ministries of Calvary Chapel of Center City.
